In the interest of levity, here are some interesting facts about hydrogen. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. It is essential for life as we know it. Pure hydrogen gas is extremely rare, as it readily combines with oxygen to form water. It was discovered in 1671 by Robert Boyle. It is a major component of ammonia. Of all the elements, only the three common isotopes of hydrogen – protium, deuterium, and tritium – have different names. Highly flammable, hydrogen wil only ignite in the presence of oxygen.
